An example courier run

Here is one real run of MiliRoute's optimizer: 8 stops around Castle Hill and Baulkham Hills in Sydney. In the order the stops were typed in, the drive was 24.4 km and about 40 minutes. MiliRoute's order was 17.5 km and 30 minutes: 6.9 km and 10 minutes less.

Driving times are Google's estimates for average traffic conditions. Your saving depends on your own stops and how you order them today, so treat this as one example, not a promise. The fair test is to run tomorrow's stops through it.

What makes courier routes hard

Too many stops for a normal maps app

Google's own help page says you can add up to 9 stops to a Google Maps route, including the final destination, and you choose the order yourself. A courier day is usually longer than that, and the order is the whole problem.

Addresses on labels and lists

Typing 30 addresses from parcel labels is slow and easy to get wrong. MiliRoute's camera scanner reads an address from a label or a printed list and adds it as a stop.

Proving the parcel was left

When a customer says nothing arrived, you need proof. MiliRoute records a signature, a photo and a note for a delivered stop, and a reason for a failed one.

How it works

  1. Add your stops. Type an address, pick a saved favourite, or scan a label with the camera.
  2. Tap Optimize. MiliRoute works out the quickest order from your start to your finish.
  3. Drive it. The next stop is always at the top. Tap Navigate to open it in Google Maps.
  4. Mark each stop. Delivered or failed, with proof if you need it. Your progress is saved.

Then open the route's analytics: deliveries per hour, time per stop, and the distance and time saved against the order you entered. You can save the page as a PDF.

Features couriers use

  • Camera address scanner for labels, manifests and printed lists.
  • Proof of delivery: signature, photo and note; 12 failure reasons.
  • Per-route analytics with a PDF you can send to a client or keep.
  • Share a route as a link, so another driver gets their own copy.
  • Avoid tolls when you optimize.
  • One account on Android and the web. A route made on one shows up on the other.
  • The app speaks 11 languages, including Chinese, Hindi, Farsi, Filipino and Thai.

What it does, and what it doesn't

A good fit

  • Owner-drivers and contract couriers planning their own run
  • Small teams where each driver plans their own route
  • Parcel, food, pharmacy and trade runs with many stops in one day

Not built for

  • Splitting one order list across several vans
  • Live driver tracking for a dispatcher
  • Customer SMS or delivery-time messages
  • Delivery time windows inside the optimizer

If you need those, compare a dispatch platform: see our comparisons with Routific, OptimoRoute and Spoke (Circuit).

Courier route planner: questions

What is the best route planner for couriers?

It depends on how you work. A courier who plans their own run each day needs a driver app that orders the stops and records proof of delivery. A business that splits one pool of orders across many drivers needs a dispatch platform. MiliRoute is built for the first case. Our guide to route planners in Australia compares 14 tools from their own pages.

How many stops can I plan for free?

Routes of up to 10 stops are free, with no credit card. Premium removes the limit for A$15 a month or A$140 a year. Both plans use the same optimizer and features.

Does MiliRoute record proof of delivery?

Yes. When you mark a stop delivered you can add a signature, a photo and a note. When a delivery fails you pick a reason and can add a photo.

Can I plan routes for several drivers at once?

No. MiliRoute plans one route per driver. Each driver plans their own run, and a route can be shared as a link so another driver gets a copy. It does not split one order list across several vans.

Which countries does MiliRoute work in?

Address search and the camera scanner accept addresses in Australia, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Prices are charged in Australian dollars. See the real example routes for the US, Canada and the UK.

Does it work on iPhone?

MiliRoute runs on Android and in any web browser, including on an iPhone. A native iPhone app is on the way.
