Free tools › Cost per drop calculator
Enter a normal day and see what one delivery costs you. Then see what a shorter route would save, using your own numbers.
Use your own measured numbers from a few real routes. We do not assume a typical saving.
With a saving: the saved minutes come off the hours worked and the saved kilometres come off the distance, and the cost per drop is worked out again. Working days per year is only used to turn the daily saving into a yearly one.
Add up the day's driver time (hours worked times your hourly rate), vehicle running cost (kilometres driven times your cost per kilometre) and any other costs (tolls, parking, phone), then divide by the number of drops. The calculator shows all three parts so you can see which one is biggest.
Use your own figure: fuel, servicing, tyres, registration, insurance and the van's loss in value, divided by the kilometres you drive in a year. The ATO's cents-per-kilometre rate (91 cents for 2026-27) is a tax deduction rate, not a measure of what your vehicle actually costs, but some drivers use it as a rough guide, so there is a button for it.
It depends on your stops and how spread out they are, so we do not give a typical figure. Enter the minutes and kilometres a better route saves on a normal day, ideally measured from your own routes, and the calculator shows the effect on cost per drop.
