Route Planner for US Delivery Drivers: ZIP Codes, Miles and a Real New York Route

US delivery drivers can type or scan an address, with ZIP codes recognised, and get the quickest driving order for the day's stops. MiliRoute is free for routes of up to 10 stops, starts in miles on a US phone, and works on Android and in a web browser.

This guide covers what to check in a route planner if you deliver in the United States: addresses, miles, price, the 2026 IRS mileage rate, and one real New York route with all eight stops.

Key takeaways

  • Check that ZIP codes, street numbers and ordinals like "5th Ave" are read correctly, and that nearby matches come first.
  • One real New York run: 85.9 km (53.4 miles) as listed, 37.9 km (23.5 miles) in MiliRoute's order, on a list that was far from the best order.
  • The IRS business mileage rate is 76 cents a mile from 1 July 2026 (72.5 cents from 1 January to 30 June).
  • Free plans allow 5 to 15 stops per route; MiliRoute allows 10 and Premium is A$15 a month, charged in Australian dollars.
  • There is no native iPhone app yet; the web app runs in Safari on an iPhone.

What should a US delivery driver check in a route planner?

  • ZIP codes and street numbers. "350 5th Ave, New York, NY 10118" should be found, not a different town with a similar street. MiliRoute's camera scanner recognises US ZIP codes and ordinals like "5th Ave" from a label photo, even when the camera runs the characters together.
  • Nearby matches first. If you allow location, MiliRoute lists matches near you first, so "100 King St" is the one in your city.
  • Miles. On a phone set to the US, MiliRoute starts in miles. You can change it in App Settings.
  • The free stop limit. Routes of up to 10 stops are free, with no credit card. Other apps range from 5 to 15 free stops; see the free limits side by side.
  • Price and currency. Premium has no stop limit and costs A$15 a month or A$140 a year, charged in Australian dollars. Single-driver apps cost about US$9 to US$20 a month on their own pricing pages; see the dated price comparison.
  • What it does not do. MiliRoute plans one route for one driver. It has no dispatch, live tracking or customer text messages.

One real New York route

MiliRoute's optimizer was given eight well-known New York places in no particular order on 24 October 2026. Driving times are Google's estimates for average traffic, not live traffic.

Driving distance Driving time
Order as listed 85.9 km (53.4 miles) 3 h 24 min
MiliRoute's order 37.9 km (23.5 miles) 1 h 59 min

The order as listed was: 89 E 42nd St (start), 209 Joralemon St Brooklyn, 10 Lincoln Center Plaza, 75 9th Ave, 620 Atlantic Ave Brooklyn, 2960 Broadway, 31 Union Square W, 285 Fulton St (finish). MiliRoute's order was: 89 E 42nd St, 10 Lincoln Center Plaza, 2960 Broadway, 75 9th Ave, 31 Union Square W, 620 Atlantic Ave Brooklyn, 209 Joralemon St Brooklyn, 285 Fulton St.

That is 48.0 km and 1 hour 25 minutes less. The list jumped between Manhattan and Brooklyn, so it was far from the best order. If you already plan carefully, your gap will be smaller. The only fair test is your own stops. The full example is on the New York page.

What is the IRS mileage rate for 2026?

The IRS lists a business standard mileage rate of 76 cents per mile for 1 July to 31 December 2026, and 72.5 cents per mile for 1 January to 30 June 2026. For 2025 the rate was 70 cents per mile for the whole year (IRS).

Because the rate changed in the middle of 2026, keep a dated log. Worked examples, using only the published rates: 1,000 business miles after 1 July is 1,000 x 76 cents = $760, and 1,000 business miles before 1 July is 1,000 x 72.5 cents = $725. This is not tax advice. See mileage rates in four countries for the UK, Canada and Australia.

How does fuel fit into the picture?

A mileage rate is a flat amount. Your real fuel cost depends on your vehicle and on the price at the pump, so it helps to know what a route costs you in fuel. The fuel cost per route calculator takes your distance, your vehicle's consumption and your fuel price. The saving from a shorter route is the distance difference multiplied by that cost per mile, plus the driving time you get back.

Fuel is paid per mile driven, so every mile an ordered route removes is also a saving at the pump.

How do you plan a US delivery day?

  1. Collect every address in one list: type, paste or scan labels.
  2. Pick each address from the suggestions so the ZIP code and street are right.
  3. Let the planner order the stops; pin any stop that must be first or last.
  4. Drive the route in Google Maps, one stop at a time.
  5. Record each drop with a photo or signature.
  6. Check the day's analytics: distance, time per delivery and deliveries per hour.

The step-by-step checklist explains each step, and the Google Maps stop limit guide explains why the ordering step comes before the driving.

What about Amazon Flex, DoorDash or other gig platforms?

MiliRoute works from the addresses you give it, whatever job they come from. It does not connect to any platform, so you add the stops yourself. If a platform sends you to stops one at a time, you cannot reorder them in advance. This guide is about drivers who have a list of stops for the day.
