Fuel cost per route calculator

Enter the route distance, your fuel use and the fuel price. See the litres and dollars for one route, and what a shorter route would save.

A$

Optional: what would a shorter route save?

How it is calculated

Litres used = distance x litres per 100 km / 100
Fuel cost = litres used x price per litre

The shorter-route saving uses the same two steps on the kilometres saved. It only counts distance. Speed, idling and tolls also change real fuel use.

Common questions

How is the fuel cost of a route calculated?

Litres used = distance in kilometres x fuel use in litres per 100 km, divided by 100. Cost = litres used x price per litre. The calculator shows both steps.

How do I find my litres per 100 km?

Fill the tank, drive normally, then fill it again. Divide the litres you added by the kilometres driven and multiply by 100. For a new vehicle you can also use the manufacturer's figure, though real-world use is usually different.

Is the shortest route always the cheapest on fuel?

Not always. Speed, stop-start driving, idling and tolls all matter, so a slightly longer route with fewer stops and turns can use less fuel. This calculator only turns kilometres into litres and dollars using the fuel use you enter.

Is my information saved?

No. The sums run in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to us.
