MiliRoute in 11 Languages: How to Change the App's Language
The MiliRoute app comes in 11 languages: English, Persian (Farsi), Kurdish (Sorani), German, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Thai, Hindi and Filipino. You change the language yourself, in under a minute, and the app switches straight away.
This guide shows how to change the language, what the app looks like in each one (using the app's own words), what is still English, how Persian and Kurdish are laid out right to left, and what the 2021 Census says about how many people in Australia speak these languages at home.
Quick facts
- Languages: 11, listed below, each shown by its own name in the language picker.
- To change it: Profile tab, then App Settings, then Language. It takes effect at once, with no restart.
- Completeness: each language has all 304 text items the English version has, and none is blank.
- Right to left: Persian and Kurdish (Sorani) are laid out right to left.
- Where it is saved: on your phone, so every driver on a team picks their own.
- Not translated: a few screens still show English words, the website is English only, and addresses stay as written.
Key takeaways
- The language is a setting on each person's own phone, so a team can mix languages freely.
- The 2021 Census counted 5.8 million people in Australia, 22.8% of the population, who used a language other than English at home (source: ABS, Cultural diversity of Australia, 2021 Census).
- Mandarin is the most common of those, at 685,274 people (2.7%). Most speakers of Hindi, Filipino, French and German also report speaking English well, so for many people a first-language app is about comfort and speed, not necessity.
- Among the languages in our table, Mandarin is the exception: 25.9% of Mandarin speakers reported low English proficiency.
- We checked the app on 7 November 2026: a few screens (parts of the scanner, the edit-stop screen and some pop-ups) still show English in every language.
Which languages does MiliRoute offer?

How do you change the language in MiliRoute?
Open Profile, tap App Settings, tap Language and pick your language. The app changes as soon as you choose, with no restart and no new sign-in.
- Open the Profile tab.
- Tap App Settings.
- Tap Language.
- Pick your language from the list.

If you never choose a language, the app follows the language your phone is set to when MiliRoute has that language. Your choice is saved on the phone. It is not part of your account, so installing the app on a second phone means choosing again.
What does MiliRoute look like in each language?
The main screens, the delivery statuses and the messages are translated. Here are three real words from the delivery screens, exactly as the app shows them in each language:
| Language | "Delivered" | "Failed" | "Deliveries / hour" |

| Persian | تحویل شد | ناموفق | تحویل در ساعت |
| Kurdish | گەیەنرا | سەرنەکەوت | گەیاندن / کاتژمێر |

| Filipino | Naihatid | Nabigo | Paghahatid / oras |
And one real message, the one a Free route gets when it goes over its limit of 10 stops, in each language:

Why does language matter on a delivery round?
Because the people who deliver do not all work in English at home. The 2021 Census found that 5.8 million people in Australia (22.8% of the population) used a language other than English at home. The most common was Mandarin, then Arabic, Vietnamese, Cantonese and Punjabi (source: ABS, Cultural diversity of Australia, 2021 Census).
For the languages MiliRoute offers that the ABS reports, the Census counts of people who used the language at home are:
| Language (ABS name) | People who used it at home | English proficiency reported by those speakers |
|---|---|---|
| Mandarin | 685,274 (2.7% of the population) | 25.9% reported low English proficiency |
| Hindi | 195,658 | 95.8% high English proficiency |
| Tagalog | 130,266 | 97.0% high English proficiency |
| Filipino | 90,033 | 97.2% high English proficiency |
| French | 69,841 | 96.3% high English proficiency |
| German | 69,342 | 97.2% high English proficiency |
(source: ABS, Cultural diversity of Australia, 2021 Census). The ABS reports Tagalog and Filipino as two separate languages. The ABS pages we used do not give counts for Persian, Kurdish, Thai, Japanese or Portuguese, so we do not quote any. These counts are of people who use a language at home. They are not counts of drivers or couriers.
What the table suggests, honestly: most speakers of Hindi, Filipino, French and German also report speaking English well, so an app in their first language is more about comfort and speed than necessity. Mandarin is different: the ABS reports 175,716 Mandarin speakers with low English proficiency, 25.9% of the group. The ABS also reports that 872,000 people with a language other than English at home had low English proficiency, 15.1% of the 5.8 million, and that 3.4% of the whole population spoke English not well or not at all (ABS, Cultural diversity of Australia).

How do right-to-left languages work?
Persian and Kurdish (Sorani) are written from right to left, in Arabic script, and MiliRoute lays out the screens that way when you choose either one. Buttons, lists and text flow from the right.
Flutter, the toolkit the app is built with, does not include Kurdish Sorani in its own list of languages. MiliRoute therefore adds it and sets the right-to-left direction itself.

What is not translated?
Three things stay in English whatever language you choose.
- A few screens inside the app. Parts of the address scanner (for example "Add stop" and "Type it instead"), the edit-stop screen (for example Delivery or Pickup, and First, Auto or Last) and some route set-up pop-ups (for example "Route name" and "End location") still show English words.
- The website. miliroute.com, the pricing page and these guides are in English only.
- Addresses. You type or scan addresses as they are written, and the map works from them. A language setting does not rewrite a street name. The camera scanner reads text written in the English alphabet, which covers addresses in Australia, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
How do you set up a team that uses several languages?
Each driver installs the app, signs in to their own account and picks their language in App Settings. Nothing else is needed, because the language is stored on each phone.
- Share routes as a link. A route can be shared with another driver as a link. See how to share a delivery route with another driver.
- Everyone uses the same plan rules. Free covers routes of up to 10 stops and Premium removes the limit, in every language. See Free vs Premium.
- Show new drivers where the picker is. Because the list shows each language in its own writing, a driver can find theirs even if the app opens in another language.
