The IRS lists 72.5 cents per mile for business use from 1 January to 30 June 2026, and 76 cents per mile from 1 July to 31 December 2026 (IRS standard mileage rates page, last updated 28 July 2026).
The IRS lists 70 cents per mile for business use in 2025.
Multiply your business miles by the rate for the period you drove them. For 2026 that is miles before 1 July x 72.5 cents plus miles from 1 July x 76 cents. For example, 6,000 miles in each half is $4,350 + $4,560 = $8,910.
The IRS lists the business rate for self-employed and business use of a car. Whether it suits you, and whether the actual expense method would give a bigger deduction, depends on your situation, so check the IRS guidance or ask a tax professional.
